Benefits of Using Temporary Workers
over Permanent Workers
The assumptions that temporary workers will cost
more, be of a poorer standard, be untrained and
have no loyalty are untrue. Let's look at
these untrue statements:
- Workers will be of a
poorer standard
No, the workers are sourced from the same
employment market from which any firm
sources workers. The training given to
firms workers make them more efficient in
the job they are doing at that firm, but
does it make them better workers? If
the temporary workers were given the same
training, wouldn't it be true to say that
they would be just as skilled and efficient
in that job?
- Workers will be
untrained
This will be true that they are untrained in
the work you are wanting done in your
specific factory, but you will find that
many temporary workers have skills and
experience in many more areas than a normal
factory worker.
- Workers will have no
loyalty
Partly a true statement that the
temporary workers' loyalty is not going to
be with a company that employs them for a
short period of time. However, given
the opportunity to work for many months, or
even years with a firm, their loyalty to the
firm will be the same as that of any
employee.
- It will cost more
This is an area that stops firms using
workers. When looked at for short term
use, the temporary worker may look more
expensive. But are they? How
much would it cost a firm to employ someone
for two to three weeks when you take into
account the advertising, personnel,
interviewing and payroll costs? The
answer is that the firm saves money on using
agency temporary workers.
